Selective Outrage can be defined as claiming to possess a certain moral virtue as justification for condemning the actions of an individual; while refusing to apply the same moral virtue to the actions of another individual.

In other words, if you or your friends do it, it’s ok; however, if people you don’t like do it, it’s not ok. The fictitious ‘moral virtue’ becomes an excuse to criticize and condemn individuals you disagree with or dislike.

When it comes to principles and values, using Selective Outrage is extremely dangerous; it contaminates moral values, is a deterrent to truth, and leads to a labyrinth of moral uncertainty.

During Trump’s presidency, Selective Outrage was constantly visible. When someone criticized or insulted President Trump, the leftist media would excitedly report it as news. They didn’t question, ask for evidence, nor hold the offender accountable for his or her words.

However, when President Trump would defend himself and respond, the leftist media would display Selective Outrage as they were in shock and awe of Trump’s response to the attacker.  It’s as if they expected President Trump to be silent as he was criticized and insulted.

During Trump’s presidency, Democrats professed the moral virtue of caring for immigrant children as they launched the ‘No Kids In Cages’ protest campaign. During Biden’s presidency the same ‘cages’ were overflowed with children. Yet, the same people who publicly protested ‘No Kids In Cages’ during Trump’s presidency are nowhere to be found under Biden’s presidency.

Another example of Selective Outrage is the Democrat’s ‘Believe Women’ campaign used to protest Brett Kavanaugh’s appointment hearings. ‘Believe Women’ sounds so righteous. However, it was only used against Republican Brett Kavanaugh. When Paula Jones accused Democrat President Clinton, there were no ‘Believe Women’ protests. When Tara Reade accused Democrat President Biden, there were no ‘Believe Women’ protests. The list goes on.

Democrats are notorious for shamelessly utilizing Selective Outrage. We must be vigilant to not allow it to contaminate the Republican Party.

‘Unity’ in the Republican Party should not be synonymous with complacency in empowering Democrats and failure to deliver on Republican priorities.

‘Divisive’ in the Republican Party should not be synonymous with demanding results from elected Republicans.

As for the, ‘It’s not the right time’ argument, it seems it’s never the right time. During Trump’s first presidency, with a Republican House and a Republican Senate, it was said it was not the right time to build a wall. And now here we are with a porous border, millions of unknown illegal aliens who will forever change the fabric of this country – your children’s country.

Today, it’s not the right time to ignore a 34 trillion-dollar debt. It’s not the right time to ignore a weaponized FBI. It’s not the right time to ignore an open border, yet they’re being ignored – but no one is shaming them as ‘divisive’ for ignoring these Republican priorities. Are not the true divisive ones the elected Republicans who continuously help Democrats and fail to deliver to Republican voters?

To the assailant, submission to his assault is the only path to peace. Any opposition to his assault, he deems as ‘divisive.’ In the name of unity and peace, the assailant is protected and the victim is denied any self-defense for his preservation. Thus, beware. Selective Outrage leads to a labyrinth of moral uncertainty.
