Campaign seasons tend to be crowded with emotional promises, patriotic speeches, and mic-dropping commitments.  Pro-life believers, 2nd amendment defenders, and pro-America candidates excite voters who enthusiastically rush to the ballot box. However, once elected, some of these elected officials inexplicably vote to fund pro-choice legislation, red flag gun laws, and prioritize other countries before America.

On the local level, city and county commissioner candidates stress the need for fiscal responsibility, lower taxes, and accountability. However, once elected, some of these elected officials strangely ignore rising taxes and ultimately become advocates for more taxpayer revenue.

School board candidates promise non-partisan stances if elected. They promise to prioritize children’s education and support teachers. However, once elected, some of these elected officials unexpectedly bow to the demands of leftist activists, change school names, adopt woke indoctrination and curriculums, and invest a majority of taxpayer money in redundant administration costs rather than in teachers and education.

At a time when leftist activists are running for office and infiltrating city councils, school boards, D.A. and judge offices, and even deceitfully running as Republicans, it is crucial voters effectively vet candidates. While there’s no way of knowing with certainty what candidates will do once elected, there are questions voters can ask to more effectively vet candidates and discover their values, intentions, and perhaps hidden agendas.

To effectively vet candidates, I recommend asking questions to determine integrity through specific scenarios of what they would do if elected. Scenarios is the keyword. I say this because it’s easy for candidates to say they stand for certain principles during a campaign, but once elected, their voting record could reflect the absence of said principle. Scenario questions disclose whether elected officials would uphold the principles they proclaim to believe, in response to a specific vote or situation.

The following are examples of scenario questions. You can adapt them to candidates in your area.

CITY/COUNTY COMMISSIONER:

  • Mr. or Mrs. Candidate for city/county commissioner: It is common for cities/counties to accept federal funding in exchange for enforcement of federal mandates and executive orders. What are your thoughts on this and how will you determine which federal funding is acceptable without compromising your constituents?
  • Mr. or Mrs. Candidate for city/county commissioner: Once elected, your county commissioner peers may attempt to persuade you to support rogue spending of taxpayers’ hard-earned money – perhaps by telling you voters don’t understand the complexity of a budget. How will you respond to them when this happens and what factors will you use to determine the budget?
  • Mr. or Mrs. Candidate for city/county commissioner (Incumbent). Who or what persuaded you to vote for X? Do you think that was the right decision? Would you vote differently today? If so, why?

SCHOOL BOARD

  • Mr. or Mrs. Candidate for school board: You claim school board elections are non-partisan and are only about the education of the children. What is your view on the indoctrination of children in school?
  • Mr. or Mrs. Candidate for school board: What is your view on the sexual indoctrination of children in school and children’s books that contain sexual material?
  • Mr. or Mrs. Candidate for school board: How will you respond if a leftist activist demands you support changing the name of a school or adopting ESG or sexual indoctrination of children?

SHERIFF:

  • Mr. or Mrs. Candidate for sheriff: Does a sheriff answer to the federal government, state government, other law enforcement agencies, or your county constituents? (NOTE: A sheriff only answers to his constituents. They are the last line of defense against tyranny.  If the candidate answers otherwise, they do not understand the duties of a sheriff and will likely side with federal or state overreach against county citizens).
  • Mr. or Mrs. Candidate for sheriff: We’ve recently seen numerous levels of law enforcement either aiding and abetting the illegal entry of immigrants into the country or inactive in preventing the illegal entry of immigrants.  If elected, what is your Constitutional duty and obligation to your constituents when it comes to the border invasion?
  • Mr. or Mrs. Candidate for sheriff: If elected, how would you respond to a federal mandate to confiscate citizen’s guns?

These are just a few examples of scenario questions. “What would you do if…” “How would you vote if…” Scenario questions allow constituents to hold their elected officials accountable should they vote or act differently once elected. Remember, scenario questions disclose whether elected officials would uphold the principles they proclaim to believe, in response to a specific vote or situation.
