As I see the birth of a tsunami of liberty-infringing federal mandates and Texas unwilling to stop the first domino by protecting people from losing their livelihood over a medical procedure — and I’ve been listening and reading how elected officials across the state are justifying this — I’m reminded of one of my first meetings as a campaign strategist.

I was first hired to strategize for a group of candidates when I was 18 due to my studies in human behavior. In one meeting, as I started to go over the candidates’ hot topics for the campaign, I was rudely interrupted by one of the donors who told me, “You’re here to tell these candidates what words and topics to use with each demographic group to get them elected. And after they get elected, your job will be to tell them what to tell their constituents to justify how they voted and get them re-elected.”

It’s Déjà Vu.
